The Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers:

Offers the only international, standardized certification for professional dog trainers that is both psychometrically sound and independent of any course of study.

Reviews each certification exam annually to ensure it remains up-to-date with the current scientific landscape of canine behavior and training. As our understanding of canine behavior improves, the need for training and behavior professionals who are well-versed in canine behavior and applied behavior analysis is growing. Our certificants meet that need.

The APDT is dedicated to building better trainers through education, promoting dog-friendly methods and encouraging their use. Our membership is composed of trainers from across the spectrum of training philosophies who have an interest in furthering their knowledge of positive training. Membership in the APDT does not necessarily ensure all members employ similar training methods, nor does the Association set standards of skill or competence.
